Formed from multiple plies of bonded hardwood, ROADSHOW drum shells feature 9-Ply Poplar shells for optimal tone, molded to fabricate a resonance chamber that projects powerfully when you strike the drumhead. Your bass drum is the heartbeat of your kit, setting the pulse for the groove. Indeed, the kick is the foundation for your entire drum set. PEARL®'s ROADSHOW bass drum gives you an extended tension/tuning range for low, chest-pounding bass frequencies, and includes locking, slip-free spurs and secure mounting for your toms and accessories. The ROADSHOW snare - the voice of your drum set - delivers everything from the loudest accents to the most delicate ghost notes. It's packed with power and attack, yet sensitive enough for any musical genre, at any volume.

Quality hardware

N E W T O N E M U S I C drummers know that good, solid hardware makes life easier. The Pearl Roadshow 5-Piece drum set comes with cymbal, hi-hat, and snare drum stands that provide a strong, balanced tripod base. These stands are adjustable for height and angle, and feature double-braced legs and interlocking tilter adjustments, so your drum set stays put during the intensities of live performance.

Cymbal, hi-hat, and snare drum stands should start with a strong and well-balanced tripod base. Double-braced legs and interlocking tilter adjustments are also vital for keeping all parts of the kit in place under the pressure of performance. ROADSHOW’s included hardware package is second-to-none in its class. All stands are dual-reinforced, height and angle adjustable, and feature double-braced legs to withstand the pounding onslaught of the heavy-hitting drummer.

Snare Drum

The Snare Drum is the voice of the drum set and captures everything from the loudest accents to the softest “ghost” notes. With a matching shell and finish, the ROADSHOW snare is full of attack and power, yet sensitive enough for drumming at any volume.

Bass Drum

The bass drum is the tonal heartbeat of the drum set and should not only set the low-end pulse for the groove, but be a foundation for the rest of the complete drum set-up. The ROADSHOW kick drum features an extended tension/tuning range for low, chest-thumping bass frequencies, and includes locking, slip-free feet (or ‘spurs’), and secure mounting for toms and accessories.

Cymbals

ROADSHOW’s included cymbal set features a 16” brass crash/ ride and a set of 14” brass/hybrid hats. Perfect for accents and timekeeping until an upgraded multi-cymbal set-up is acquired.

SHELL COMPOSITION

Formed from multiple plies of bonded hardwood, the drum shells are molded to create a single air resonance chamber to project a note when the drum head is struck. ROADSHOW’s bass drum, tom toms, and snare feature a 9-ply Poplar shell for optimum tonal power.

The Bearing Edge is where the drum head meets the drum shell and where much of the drum’s tonal character begins. ROADSHOW’s hand-cut 45° bearing edges contact the head with precision, drawing better sound from the shell making each drum easier to tune.

ABOUT PEARL® DRUMS

PEARL® was founded by Katsumi Yanagisawa -who began manufacturing music stands in Sumida, Tokyo on April 2, 1946. In 1950, Yanagisawa shifted his focus to the manufacturing of drums and named his company "Pearl Industry, Ltd."

By 1953, the company's name had been changed to "Pearl Musical Instrument Company," and manufacturing had expanded to include drum kits, marching drums, timpani, Latin percussion instruments, cymbals, stands, and accessories.

Yanagisawa's eldest son, Mitsuo, joined PEARL® in 1957 and formed a division to export PEARL® products worldwide. To meet increasing worldwide demand for drum kits following the advent of rock and roll music, in 1961 PEARL® built a 15,000 sq ft (1,400 m2) factory in Chiba, Japan to produce inexpensive drum kits that bore the brand names of more than thirty distributors such as Maxwin, CB-700, Stewart, Werco, Ideal, Crest, Revelle, Revere, Lyra, Majestic, Whitehall, Silvertone, Apollo, Toreador, Roxy, and Coronet.

In 1966, PEARL® introduced its first professional drum kit, the "President Series".

For a time in the early 1970s, PEARL® was distributed in the U.S. by Norlin, the parent company of Gibson Guitars at the time.

Today, PEARL®'s Taiwanese operation encompasses five factories whose output supplies nearly the entire worldwide market for PEARL® products. The original Chiba factory now caters to the domestic Japanese market, producing drum kits, marching drums, timpani, and symphonic chimes.

Adams Musical Instruments are sold in the U.S. through PEARL® dealers, Hughes & Kettner guitar and bass amplifiers are distributed through PEARL®'s main warehouse in Nashville, Tennessee and Sabian cymbals are distributed in Japan through PEARL® dealers.

PEARL® created several drum products, such as shells in the 1970s that were made of wood with a fiber-glass lining. There was also a shell made of a composite called "Phenolic." Additionally, Pearl combined roto-toms and these Phenolic shells to create the Vari-Pitch line of drums. Other early innovations included shells that were slightly undersized, so that the drum head would extend over the edges, much like a gong drum. Pearl manufactured seamless, extruded acrylic shells that were different from the tabbed-and-seamed Vistalite shells used by Ludwig. Pearl also developed the hinged tube tom-arm, a design widely copied by many other drum manufacturers.

CONSTRUCTION

PEARL® has made shells for more than 30 companies. In the 1960s, they ceased making shells for other companies, and began manufacturing drums under their own name and used the Pearl logo for the first time.

Their construction technique is known as SST or "Superior Shell Technology." All PEARL® drums feature this construction. Each ply is placed into a cylinder, and pressure is applied from both sides. While in the press, the shell is heated to bring the glue to a boil, thus forcing it through the wood grain and fusing the shells very tightly. The individual plies are scarf jointed, and all the seams are offset, resulting in a "seamless" drum (PEARL® demonstrates the strength by parking a Humvee with its tire on a tom shell). This creates a drum shell of incredible strength.

The start of the Ludwig Drum Company, and "The Most Famous Name on Drums"

• 1909 – William F. & Theobald Ludwig Founds Ludwig & Ludwig Drum Company.

• 1911 – Ludwig introduces their first Timpani model.

1920-1929

1930-1939

During the great depression, William Ludwig Sr. sold Ludwig & Ludwig to CG Conn in Elkhart, IN. The Ludwig and Leedy brand were separate brands made in the same factory.

• 1937, William F. Ludwig establishes a new drum company called WFL Drum Company in Chicago.
• WFL competes with Ludwig branded drums made by CG Conn.
• WFL starts production on Damen Ave. in Chicago.
• 1938 - Bill Ludwig Jr. (AKA: The Chief) joins WFL
• 1938 – WFL creates the 1st Speed King Bass Drum Pedal.

1940-1949

WFL Drums supports the war efforts and starts a new era in marketing.

• Early to Mid-40’s – Due to the war efforts and shortages of metal, WFL Drum Company makes drums with wooden hoops, lugs and rope tension or drums with only 10% metal content.
• 1947 - Ludwig produces first post war catalog featuring Buddy Rich on the cover.

1950-1959

A decade of mergers and acquisitions sets up the future...

• 1951 – Under Conn, Ludwig & Ludwig and Leedy are combined under the name Leedy & Ludwig.
• 1955 – William F. Ludwig (WFL) buys the “Ludwig” name from Conn to form The Ludwig Drum Company.

1960-1969

The decade that changed the music industry and the face of Ludwig Drums forever...

Created in the DW® Custom Shop, the New Yorker drums were designed in compact sizes for easier portability. An 8”x10” mounted tom, 12”x13” floor tom, 14”x18” bass drum and 6”x13” snare. And now, the New Yorkers are available from PDP® in stylish kits for the student or working drummer, in brilliant Diamond or Sapphire finishes.

PDP New Yorker Kits exhibit warm, full tones, courtesy of their all-poplar shells. The low-mass, Teardrop Mini-Turret lugs help to make them lightweight and travel-friendly.

Compact Kit with a Classic Sound

The PDP® New Yorker has an upscale look and an open tone that's missing from many modern kits. The New Yorker's compact, all-poplar shells leave a lot of breathing room in an ensemble, which tends to work well for live jazz, funk, and hip-hop. Even so, N E W T O N E M U S I C drummers were impressed with the amount of low end the New Yorker is capable of putting out. With close mics and proper tuning, we're sure the New Yorker would hold its own in a modern indie or alternative mix. PDP® was kind enough to include a bass drum riser in this shell pack, which, combined with a cutaway in the batter-side hoop, lets you use your favorite kick pedal with minimal difference in response.

Compact poplar shells free up space in a mix and onstage

It's always a treat to play kits that have the classic sound that inspired the early greats. The PDP® New Yorker's shells are compact and made from solid poplar, which gives them a nice open tone that gives good dynamic feedback and responds to room characteristics. The New Yorker's small size also makes it nice for traveling - you can easily fit the entire four-piece shell pack in a hatchback and still have room for hardware.

PDP® hardware enhances resonance and tuning

The PDP® New Yorker began its life a decade ago as a portable DW® Custom Shop kit. Its legacy of quality performance lives on in PDP®'s hardware. Low-mass Teardrop mini lugs maximize shell resonance for a lively sound, and True-Pitch® tuning rods with fine threads allow for precise tuning.

A full battery of industry-standard REMO® Heads gives the PDP® New Yorker a great tone right out of the box. N E W T O N E M U S I C drummers enjoyed the smooth, subdued tones these brought out in the drums and feel they're a good starting place for drummers of all levels.

Self-muffling heads let you get good, controlled bass drum sound within moments of setup.

Low-Profile Kick (Bass) Drum Pedal

STAGESTAR's kick pedal offers the same playing feel and footboard angles as a regular-sized pedal. Its profile is 3/4" lower than standard pedals, which allows the beater to hit the sweet spot of the bass drum without any extra height-adjusting hardware.
