LANEY® VH100R 2-Channel 100w
Guitar Amp Head
High-Gain British Roar!
The Laney VH100R tube guitar amp head features twin footswitchable channels each with its own footswitchable gain, independent 3 band EQ, independent reverb level and dedicated FX loop. You get an unprecedented level of flexibility. You can now go from a super clean shimmer, to a warm clean crunch, to a stack style distortion to a full-on lead tone as simply as stepping on a switch - which is included with the amp (FS4).
The by word for the VH100R is flexibility - flexibility of tone and flexibility of use. In this day and age, the modern guitar player has an arsenal of products available to them - from single stomp box effects to mighty racks. To cater for this level of choice the VH100R is fitted with five effects loops, each giving the player slightly different options when connecting external gear.
There are side chain effects loops for channels A & B as well as one global to the entire preamp. There is an insert loop, which can be run in three modes - Bypass, Side chain or Insert with a dedicated return level, and finally there is a Preamp out/Power amp in loop.

Laney® VH100R Tube Head 4 x EL34 100w
From Andertons Music Co, UK
The VH001R is a twin-channel amplifier capable of giving you everything from monster aggressive tones to bright clean sounds. Both the Laney VH100R Laney Tube Head 4 x EL34 100w's two channels have footswitchable gain controls which give you four very distinct options allowing you to choose between clean, crunch, stack style distortion or a full-on lead sound. Furthermore, with a three band EQ you can fine tune and personalize each setting to your own specific needs. Here's what Laney say about the Laney VH100R Laney Tube Head 4 x EL34 100wThe VH100R is the real backline hero – since its launch in 1995 the VH100R has caught more than a few guitarists eyes and ears with its aggressive tone, gleaming chrome front panel and chicken head knobs.
The panel positively bristles with controls but once you understand the nature of the beast it all makes perfect sense, and everything falls naturally to hand.
FLEXIBILITY
The VH100R is a twin-channel amplifier with each channel having foot-switchable gain giving you four distinct sounds at your fingertips. Sonic characteristics can be broadly split into clean, crunch, stack style distortion and finally, full-on lead. Clean sounds are taken care of by a single volume control with an accompanying Bright switch – tone shaping comes courtesy of a three band EQ.
CRUNCH
If it's crunch you want, then you can dial in drive via the Drive pot and control your level boost by the second Volume pot. Access to the overdrive channel is gained either via the front panel or using the FS4 footswitch, which is supplied with the unit. The Drive channel is laid out in the same clear way as the clean/crunch channel but works in a slightly different way; the final footswitchable gain section adds to the existing gain and volume setting without overriding them.
Four sounds with different gain characteristics, each with their own distinct identity – refreshingly simple.
ROUND THE BACK
The rear of the VH100R is home to numerous effects loops and speaker sockets presenting you with plenty of options when it comes to interfacing with outboard gear.
The effects loops are laid out in simple, easy-to-use groups; one parallel loop for channel A, one parallel loop for channel B, one parallel loop which is global to the entire pre-amp, and an insert loop which functions in either series or parallel mode with its own return level control. Finally, a pre-amp in/power amp out loop to round things off.
If desired, you also get the ability to retro fit 6L6/5881's in place of the factory fitted EL34 outputs tubes at the flick of the onboard biasing switch.
OUTPUT PACKAGE
The VH100R's power comes courtesy of a quartet of factory fitted TAD EL34's hand-selected for the best valve tone possible.
The VH100R is a serious road-ready amplifier and is impressive in terms of build quality. The elegant top mounted grab handles show that a great deal of thought has gone into both the aesthetics, and practicalities of construction and use. Finished off in a black basket weave vinyl covering and a black and grey front grille, the chromed corners and white piping make this amplifier a real draw, even before you turn it on.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT
Firing up the VH100R leaves a big impression! Totally clean sounds – bright, punchy and solid. Single coils are bright without being painful: Humbuckers are smooth with lots of tone – but never nasal. Switch in the drive channel and you're into that pleasing 'just breaking up' rhythm sound area – no mushiness here, even as you wind the gain up.
And then there's the lead channel – stuffed full of harmonic richness and muscular tone. Dial in the additional gain and you've got everything from a bluesy wail to a rip-your-head off mega gain tone.
A very, very impressive package indeed.
Sat on top of a Celestion® Vintage V30 loaded GS412PA, or PS cabinet, the VH100R is a real killer tone machine!

Laney Amplification History
Laney Amplification was founded in 1967 by Lyndon Laney while playing bass guitar in Band of Joy. Lyndon's intense interest in electronics, paired with his lack of funds to purchase a proper amplifier, led to his building what would become the first Laney amp in his father's garage. As word spread of the tone supplied by Lyndon's amplifiers, he was able to supplement his income with amp sales to many local musicians, including Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.
When the Laney signature tone was heard on Black Sabbath's seminal debut album in 1970, demand became too high for the new company's manufacturing facilities. Laney began manufacturing in the Digbeth Quarter of Birmingham temporarily, but ultimately settled in Cradley Heath, where they stayed until 2004 when they again moved to larger facilities in Halesowen.
From the late ‘60s through much of the ‘70s, Laney focused primarily on their flagship LA100BL model amplifier and their KLIPP Series amplifiers. The KLIPP Series integrated a treble booster, similar to the Dallas Rangemaster used by countless rock and blues guitarists of the day.
As the 1980s began, there was an increased demand for overdrive and gain from amplifier manufacturers. Laney entered the market with their infamous AOR Series (Advanced Overdrive Response), offering an extra gain stage built in. This was particularly innovative as competitors such as Marshall would require extensive modification to achieve this sound. These amps were popular with such players as Randy Rhoads, Vinnie Moore, George Lynch, and Ace Frehley. Since the early ‘90s, these AOR Amps have become a staple of the stoner rock and doom metal tone palette.
The 1990s found Laney building on their reputation for innovation with such products as the VC line of amps, which were combo units reminiscent of the Vox AC Series, but with built in effects and advanced features. Their now classic VH100R, as well as the GH50L and GH100L head units were also introduced during this time period, gaining acclaim with such devotees as Paul Gilbert, Andy Timmons, John 5, and Joe Satriani. Laney also introduced Tony Iommi’s first signature amplifier, the GH100TI, in 1995.
In the new millennium, Laney has introduced several innovative product lines. These include the TT Series, which combined the sounds of their classic rock heads with modern MIDI integration. Also introduced were the NEXUS Series bass amplifiers, the retro styled Lionheart range, and the CUB Series of lower wattage, economy amplifiers.
In 2012 Laney introduced the new Tony Iommi Signature Amplifier Series, which includes a 100-watt head, 4x12” cabinet, and a 15-watt 1x12” combo unit. They also unveiled their highly acclaimed Ironheart Series, which caters to metal guitarists.
In early 2016 Laney Amplification produced several reproductions of its flagship LA100BL amplifier at the request of Tony Iommi and his guitar tech Mike Clement. Thirteen amplifiers were reproduced in honour of Black Sabbath's 13 album. These reproduction amplifiers were used on Black Sabbath's "The End" Tour in 2016 for the older songs that were originally recorded using the Laney LA100BL amplifiers.

STOCK SUPPLY NOTES
A note on our rare, classic, vintage, collectable, and used musical instrument amplifier & musical instrument equipment items. While we offer a warranty on your purchase, because we run on very tight profit margins (meaning cheaper gear - which is good for you, the buyer), it also means that you need to make sure you actually want the items for their incredible tone, durability, and lasting quality rather than perfect looks. Any returns or refunds will incur a re-stock fee of around a third the value of your (already) low purchase price so please remember that while most of our gear is excellent for the age, these items (especially our valve amplifier) are indeed rare and represent the sound of an unrepeatable era. Even though we meticulously service, test, clean, polish and warrant all our gear, there may occasionally be some residual scuffs underneath or on the sides, or perhaps a tiny tolex rip on the rear. So, while our gear will be in EXCELLENT CONDITION (for the age), we will always advise you if the gear is in MINT CONDITION or if we feel that the item is perhaps of only AVERAGE CONDITION.
