MUSICAL INSTRUMENT & EQUIPMENT - SALE CONSIGNMENT
MUSICAL INTRUMENT & EQUIPMENT - SALE CONSIGNMENT
Welcome to our Sale Department Consignment Agreement Form. We look forward to selling your musical instrument(s) or musical equipment item(s). Allowing us free rein to correctly list and market your item(s) will achieve the best possible result for all involved. The good news is that, although it can take a little while, our selling works. Please read through the following guide then fill in the details (over) before leaving this signed form and your item(s) with us for our team to process.
SALE COMMISSION
Obviously, as there are costs involved in selling your item(s), we have to charge a certain amount to recoup these. In addition, we need to make a little ourselves to enable us to build our name to help other musicians. But, rather than charging a set fee, which would disadvantage some while over-compensating others, we have introduced a sliding commission percentage scale. Our current (approximate and maximum) sale commission percentages are:
Item Value Commission
$250 - $500 25%
$500 - $1,500 20%
$1,500 - $2,500 15%
$2,500 - $5,000 10%
$5,000 - Onwards 5%
OUR COSTS
If you’re wondering about the these percentages, here are just a few costs we incur in selling your gear, these include: item cleaning and repair, item photography, image gathering, image editing, item history and pricing research, item shop display, item promotion, item advert writing, advert listing, advert publication, advert editing, website listing, email enquiry replies and phone enquiry discussions at all hours, item advert editing, internet management and re-listings, item storage, handling, packing, shipping, invoicing, sale receipting, sale proceeds distribution, banking, etc.
ITEM VALUATION
Although you, the seller and we, the advertiser may have a rough idea of your item’s worth, there are actually a lot of complex issues involved in determining your item’s true sale value. Issues of desirability of colour, pattern, over- or under-specification, “accessorisation”, etc all play a big roll in “moving” the item(s). Some examples of this complexity: You may personally disdain an item you’re selling only to be surprised when a buyer “snaps it up”. Conversely, you may suffer great disappointment at the market’s disinterest in your reluctantly listed personal favourite. Sometimes there is market price confusion, ie; buyers miss your item because it’s listed too cheaply and it suddenly sells as soon as we move it from a lower price category to a higher figure, or the opposite can be the case as we get new attention by drifting the price down slightly. Other times we’ll “stick to our guns” to win over a buyer. Our best advice is to leave it with us and forget about it for a while as we do the research to achieve a sale.
TIMEFRAME
Because selling your item(s) can be quite complicated and involved, we have found that it is best to set no time limits, or set no financial expectations. Valuation issues need to be balanced with timing issues like, time of year, seasonality, current identical new item supply and demand, music industry changes, music taste changes, etc. Again, the best advice is to leave it with us and forget about it for a while as we do the work.
“OFFERS” ADVICE
The very nature of internet listing, marketing, and selling means we are often deep in negotiation with potential buyers at all hours of the day and night. Clearly, this means we are not in a position to advise you of pending offers or deals while we “play the field” to make the sale. And, because it is to your advantage that we don’t differentiate between our shop stock and consigned listings, we have found it best to NOT distract potential buyers mid-negotiation to check figures with the consignor. This is a time where crucial bargains can be struck and decisions made during our seller/buyer phone conversations, emailing, or website, social media interactions or SMS text messaging. You guessed it, leave it with us and forget about it while we do the work.
WORKING TOGETHER
We ask that you be actively involved in selling your item(s). Word of mouth, using your own social media conversations, posts, and creating links to our ads or directing potential buyers to our website or any of our internet seller listings on Gumtree, Facebook, eBay, Reverb, Trading Post, etc are a are just some of the ways you can you can make a sale. You may also like to bring potential buyers through our store location to see the item. So, your mission is to get potential buyers onto your items!
SALE INCENTIVES
In achieving a sale we will often offer potential buyers various payment methods and/or other incentives. These include: long layby, price discounting, inclusion of warranty, PayPal or credit card payments, periodic direct debit bank transfers, no interest finance, inclusion of accessories, etc.
SALE PROCEEDS
If a buyer pays for your item(s) in one single transaction we will transfer your sale proceeds to you within 30 days. If however, buyers are in a financial agreement with us, we will advise you how we are able to transfer your item sale proceeds. This re-imbursement may take the form of periodical payments to you in weekly, fortnightly or monthly amounts. If this is case we would usually take our sale commission percentage at the end of the buyer periodic payment phase.
ITEM(S) INSURANCE
Each consigned item in our possession is insured to the value of $1,000 but you are welcome to obtain your own short term cover for the consignment duration (see attached insurer list).
ITEM(S) WITHDRAWAL
If at any time before your item sells, you decide to withdraw it from sale, the same consignment commission agreement applies.
SALE COST BREAKDOWN
Because of the complexity, we generally do not provide a breakdown of sale costs. However, for a fee of $150 (taken from your item sale proceeds) our administrative team is able to supply a costs disbursements record.
THIS AGREEMENT
If you have left any items with us for consignment sale, this agreement, signed or unsigned, sighted or unsighted, automatically applies pending your later signature either before or after the successful sale.
